Oh wow, what a #GirlPower book that was for me. I've read close to 900 books in my life and that's the first time I've ever come across one that has such a strong Girl Power vibe.
I freaking love this story so much and this being the very first book I've ever read from Claire Raye, I'm extremely impress and I will surely be checking up on their other titles.
I have such a girl crush on Alexa right now. She was this strong, powerful, badass of an independent woman that didn't need a man to show her she was a strong, powerful, badass of an independent woman. How refreshing is that people??? She was steady and unapologetic about her choices and the way she lived her life and when the time came for her to make some changes in her life, she did it with her head held high and with absolutely no crutches to hold her up. But, her reputation followed her around like an ugly hag and everyone around her painted her in a harsh light that she didn't deserve for living her life the way she saw fit.
Enter Jake. Adorable, cheeky, charming Aussie Jake. Talk about the definition of a true partner and a Man with capital M. Jake, the new kid on the playground, didn't let the rumours and the stories floating around Alexa to paint the picture of who she might be, but took the time to actually get to know her. And once he did, god! That man did EVERYTHING to lift her up and never once tried to change who she was. Yeah, he did some stupid shit, but in the grand scheme of things they were forgivable. And they were forgivable not in a the-heroine-is-a-dormat kinda way, but after some explanation and soul searching you can accept them and move on stronger than before.
Dear god, I can't get over that Girl Power vibe though. Alexa got shit done! She tried to go at it alone but she realised at some point that she needed help. And she had the cajones to ask and more importantly to accept it when it was given. And I FREAKING LOVED how she inspired younger generations of female wanna-be pilots and you actually got to witness the mini-badasses in action.
And even though this was supposed to be a romance novel, it was so much more than that. But the romance was so sweet and refreshing and poignant in both characters' development. It was slow burn for sure, but so satisfying to watch and experience. And when it exploded, it EXPLODED!!!!
Maaaaan, I wish there were more guys like Jake, men that instead of leading or overshadowing or standing next to their partners, they stood WITH their partners. Men who didn't take credit for their partners' accomplishment even when they had even some small part in helping them with it.
And I wish there were more women like BADASS Alexa. Women who grab life by the balls and won't let up until they're heard and they achieved what they wanted to achieve.
Pin-Up Pilot might be one of the best additions to the Cocky Hero Club of the stories I've read so far and I can't rave enough about it. #GIRLPOWERSUCKERZ
